These are the mayors of New Westminster for more than a hundred years. There are some streets named after these old mayors. Mayor Wayne Wright was kind enough to let us into his office -- rather private. But we don't have a picture of that.

These are the Council Chambers. The Council has a chamber so the Mayor can be helped by the Councillors. The lady in the painting at the side is Queen Victoria.

I'm pretty impressed about the Smart Car, but it doesn't have a radar so it can chase criminals.

The fire truck and the electrical truck have a connection with their doors. They both have the coat of arms on each door.

Our first woman mayor, Beth Wood, placed a time capsule near City Hall in 1961. It might be there for hundreds of years.

This is New Westminster's coat of arms. It has a shield with a ship, an eagle, a tree, and a plow. At the bottom there's water for Fraser River. Also, behind the shield there's a castle turret with a golden bear in it.

originals and copies

This is our copy of the Night Watch. The original costs several million dollars in my opinion. A copy costs about $30.

This painting is made out of oil so it is actually a real one. It was from one of my mother's friends' mother.

This one here was gotten from one of Dad's friends. He made it out of pastels. It's an original.

These are all copies. The postcard is cardboard. Artists paint pictures on canvasses.

Left: experiments of three different soils: sand, brown sand, and dirt. Right: Put dirt in the cup and water after it. Wait for a few hours or a day. Later, look at it and see what has happened. It might have bubbled at the top seal. The water was evaporated over time.

Soil samples are put in cups and coffee filters and see how much water would drip from it, which was the fastest, the slowest, and the most powerful to pull them back.

signs of the city

These signs are very important signs, I suppose. The signs are about peace and sister cities.

There's also a plaque with the school that was there long before.

The pole told the story of natives that were there.

City Hall

New Westminster has been the capital of British Columbia once, also known as BC for short.

T
The police station is here. The police are enforcers of the law. They work for the city.

At City Hall, we saw many important places like Council chambers and building planning.

That's the parking zone for the mayor. Rather important, isn't he?

Empty glass is full of air

This is an experiment about water. If you put something into water, the water needs someplace else to move, so the water might rise and spill.

Water doesn't go into the glass because air inside it was trapped and the air was trying its best to push it out.

If you hold an empty glass right side up, it's also full of air, but the air has someplace to go. If you pour in water, all the air will go out.

We saw these downtown. If I had one of these bears, I'd make it look like a walrus without the tusks.
